The Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) is designed to support students whose learning had been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Initiative commenced in 2021 and has continued to be delivered in 2024.
The TLI enables schools across Victoria to engage qualified teachers, retired teachers or pre service teachers as tutors to work with individual and / or small groups of students and support their learning at their individual point of need. The initiative is consistent with Australian and international evidence, which shows that small group tutoring is one of the most effective educational interventions available to support students to progress in their learning.
At Somerville Rise Primary School, the TLI is delivered by Emily Harry. Emily predominantly works with junior school students who have been identified by classroom teachers to deliver targeted extension and catch-up learning activities. Students enter the program with specific goals relating to their current performance in English and/or Mathematics and their progress is monitored over time.. Tutoring sessions complement the regular curriculum and support the lessons taking place in the classroom.
Students are identified for the TLI program through regular analysis of achievement data. If you have any questions about the TLI, please contact the TLI coordinators, Lauren Jelleff at the school.
