The Arts
At Somerville Rise Primary School, we believe the arts are essential for creativity, self-expression, and personal growth. Our Visual Arts and Performing Arts programs are guided by the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, helping students explore, create, and respond to a wide range of artistic experiences.
Visual Arts
Students from Foundation to Year 6 participate in a 60 minute Visual Arts session each week. Students experiment with different materials, techniques, and styles to create their own artworks. They learn to express ideas, communicate feelings, and reflect on their own and others’ work, developing both technical skills and creative thinking.
Our young artists proudly enter a wide range of local and state art competitions each year, showcasing their talents beyond the classroom and experiencing the excitement of sharing their work with the wider community. These opportunities inspire students to aim high, refine their skills and take pride in their achievements.
Performing Arts
Students from Foundation to Year 6 participate in a 60 minute Performing Arts session each week. In Performing Arts, including music, drama, and dance, students engage in active, hands-on learning that builds confidence, teamwork, and performance skills. They explore rhythm, movement, voice, and expression, while learning to collaborate, listen, and respond thoughtfully.
