At Somerville Rise Primary School, our aim is that all students will leave with an appreciation for The Arts which include Visual and Performing Arts.  The Arts enables students to develop their creative and expressive capacities by learning about different practices, disciplines and traditions that have shaped the expression of culture in our world.  Students will gain an appreciation of being an artist and audience in The Arts

Visual Arts

At Somerville Rise Primary School, our Visual Arts program is a vibrant, hands-on space where imagination comes to life. Students explore a wide range of materials and techniques, from painting and sculpture to mixed media and design, in lessons that are engaging, fun and thoughtfully challenging.

We believe every child is an artist. Our program nurtures creativity, encourages curiosity, and builds confidence through experimentation and problem-solving. Students are supported to take creative risks, reflect on their work, and celebrate their growth in a safe and encouraging environment grounded in our core value of kindness.

Our young artists proudly enter a wide range of local and state art competitions each year, showcasing their talents beyond the classroom and experiencing the excitement of sharing their work with the wider community. These opportunities inspire students to aim high, refine their skills and take pride in their achievements.

At Somerville Rise, Visual Arts is more than creating beautiful work, it’s about building resilient, curious and creative thinkers who are empowered to express themselves with confidence.

Performing Arts

In Performing Arts students will explore Dance, Drama and Music. Whilst in Visual Arts students explore the world of visual representation and expression. The Arts curriculum is structured around four interdependent strands, each of which involves making and responding. 

These include

• respond and interpret.

Our Performing and Visual Arts programs offer students a wide variety of engaging and hands on activities where students can explore and express themselves to increase learning. Students learning is showcased through talent and art shows, concerts, dances performances and instrumental exploration.
