Somerville Rise Primary School is a Victorian Government Primary School located 55 kilometres southeast of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula, a 10-minute drive from Frankston and was first established in 1995 to meet the demands of an increasing population in what was formerly an orchard area.

Today the student population is approximately 150. Somerville Rise is made up of 10 Teachers, 1 Principal, 3 Administration Staff and 7 Integration Staff.

Situated on the corner of Worwong Avenue and Graf Road, the school has attractive and spacious grounds with plenty of open space for children to play as well as 2 adventure playgrounds, 4 hard-court areas, basketball courts, a large oval and running track and a large sandpit. Indoor spaces include a library, gym/hall, performing arts centre, art room, and community centre. The school borders Somerville Secondary College and a newly developed wetlands reserve.

Somerville Rise Primary School aims to prepare students to contend with a very dynamic 21st century in which creativity, cooperative work, connectedness to the world and adaptability are key features.  Somerville Rise Primary School is proud of its achievements in creating a warm, harmonious and caring learning environment where students feel secure, happy and are highly motivated to learn.  We aim to make the school a place where every child becomes strong and confident, having high self-esteem and high standards of academic achievement and social behaviour.

At Somerville Rise Primary School we encourage the development of the whole student and support learners to become reflective thinkers through an evidence based learning approach. We promote, creativity, celebrate individual strengths and provide opportunities for students to develop the essential skills to be active participants in a global community.

Somerville Rise Primary School utilises a School WIde Positive Behaviours For Learning approach informed by Berry Street Educational Model.

Somerville Rise Primary School is committed to:

  • To provide an educational program that develops students’ curiosity and creativity.
  • To develop responsible and engaged learners.
  • To foster respectful relationships and empathy towards others.
  • To build each student’s resilience and self-esteem.
  • To provide a curriculum that supports critical and reflective thinkers, celebrates individual strengths and allows all students to succeed.
  • To promote a strong, supportive partnership between home and the school and the wider community.

Our school is committed to providing a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment for all students.  Students can reach their full educational potential only when they are happy, healthy and safe, and when there is a positive school culture to engage and support them in their learning.

Parents are encouraged to be involved in the school and share in a close school/home partnership with a focus on developing positive educational outcomes for their children. Parents can become classroom helpers, assist with excursions or sports activities, nominate for school council, fundraising committee or just support the school, programs and activities.

Our school actively believes that your child’s education is a partnership between school and the parent/carer with links to the wider community. There are many opportunities for parents/carers and families to take an active role in children’s education such as student lead conferences, learning expos and special events throughout the year.

Somerville Rise Primary School offers a comprehensive specialist program that includes The Arts, Library, Enrivonmental Science and Physical Education.

Other programs provided to meet the needs of students include transition programs K- Prep and Year 6 to 7, camps (grade 3/4 and 5/6) and excursions/incursions, interschool sport and out of school hours care. We have a strong commitment to sustainability practices, indoor and outdoor learning and the Craig White memorial barn is an asset to integrate Environmental Science through the outdoor curriculum.

SRPS offers comprehensive student leadership programs throughout our school with all year six students performing an important role in our school. Leadership is fostered in all sub schools through multi age classrooms where older students mentor younger students and assist with smooth transitions. Other leadership opportunities include Student representative Council (SRC) from prep to year 6, SRC executives attending school council meetings, running of assemblies and RISE up program.

Our Statement of Values and School Philosophy ensures that everyone in our school community will be treated with fairness and respect. In turn, we will strive to create a school that is inclusive and safe, where everyone is empowered to participate and learn.
