Berry Street Education Model

We are very excited to begin our whole school journey in learning about the Berry Street Educational Model as our Social and Emotional Learning curriculum.

At Somerville Rise Primary School, the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) underpins our whole school approach to wellbeing, engagement and positive behaviour.

BSEM is a trauma-informed framework that supports students to feel safe, calm and ready to learn. It focuses on building strong, respectful relationships and explicitly teaching students skills in emotional regulation, stamina, resilience and engagement.

Across all classrooms, students participate in:

  • Predictable routines and consistent expectations
  • Brain breaks and movement routines
  • Explicit teaching of emotional regulation strategies
  • Opportunities to build positive relationships with peers and staff

This consistent approach ensures that every child experiences a safe, supportive and structured learning environment every day.
